This is the original Permanoid cable used by Vox/JMI to wire their round and ‘egg’ foot switches. Originally sourced from the JMI warehouse and so perfect for replacing later non-standard cable or original cable that has become brittle and cracked. Permanoid were (and still are) a manufacturer of wire and cable based in Manchester and were suppliers to JMI in the 1960s.
There is a finite amount of this left on the reel and I am not hopeful of other reels turning up other source for this so, once it is gone, it is gone.
The cable is in excellent condition and fully retains is flexibility with no real signs of aging. It is single-core, screened black cable. The screen is braided, the outside diameter is c. 4mm and the outer diameter of the inner core is c. 2mm. The core consists of around 14 strands of steel (possibly tinned copper).
Sold by the half metre but supplied as a continuous length (obviously) to enable you to buy 2.5m if you want to be strictly original - we believe that Vox originally supplied most footswitches with 8ft cables (c. 2.4m). However, 2m (or even 1.5m) may be plenty for studio use and would preserve a bit more of the original stuff.
