Thread repair inserts for Vox panels (AC30, AC50, AC15 and many cabs)
Repair kit for stripped or missing thread inserts on Vox amps and cabs (enough to repair 3 damaged threads)
The rear panels on vintage (JMI, VSL, VSEL and Arbiter period) Vox amps such as AC30 and AC15 combos, AC50 heads and most speaker cabinets are screwed on with machine screws which pass into thread inserts in the cabinet. Unfortunately, these soft alloy inserts often strip or fall out with age. This kit contains everything you need to repair one of these screws (see separate listing for additional thread inserts if you need to repair more than one).
These inserts are extremely high quality stainless steel and, if inserted correctly, will repair the cabinet and enable the rear panel to be screwed tightly in place. You can re-use the existing screw if the thread is undamaged so that the repair is completely invisible outside the cabinet.
Note that this repair method will not work if the hole in the cabinet has been significantly enlarged - more than around 7.3mm in diameter. In those cases, I recommend drilling and glueing a dowel into the old hole before re-drilling for one of these inserts.
If you need to repair more than 3 threads (or don’t need the drill) you can buy sets of 3 inserts separately.
The kit contains:
3 x self-tapping SS threaded inserts with correct internal thread for vintage Vox amps/cabs
1 x correct sized drill to drill out the old insert if needed.
1 x steel screw to drive the insert home.
You will need a drill (hand or power) and a flathead screwdriver
