Vox JMI AC30/6 Treble 1963 Fawn Rexine re-covered case

£2,000.00

A rather beautiful copper-top JMI Vox Treble voiced AC30/6 from 1963. The case has been expensively re-covered in classic fawn vinyl, brown grill cloth and finished with brass and gold-coloured hardware.

Chassis are in fantastic condition, being an original ‘treble’ voiced example. It has had a recent service with the usual service items (filter caps, small electrolytics, grid and cathode resistors, cathode bypass cap and a few resistors) replaced. The original Woden output transformer and choke are present, power transformer is a replacement 240v unit and two of the pots have been replaced. The specification of the amp is unchanged with very high quality original value components being used.

This chassis came to us without a case so the original serial number is not known (replacement blank serial plate is mounted on the rear panel) and it has been housed in a contemporary early ‘60s case that has been refurbished to a very high standard. The interior of the case still has some of the scars (although no longer the cobwebs) it had accumulated over its 60 year life but the exterior has been given an expense-no-object refinish using authentic fawn rexine (very hard to find) and many of our own components.

This chassis had previously been very well restored, but the gnomes at the Amporium have carefully checked and serviced this amp, improving the heater earth (which reduces mains hum), replacing the missing pots with better quality CTS items and repairing the Vib/Trem switch.

The cabinet has a pair of 1963 alnico blue speakers, one of which has its original intact pulsonic cone, whle the other has been re-coned with a surviving pulsonic cone by RJM Loudspeakers. Both work flawlessly and sound just as they should Original ‘egg’ footswitch is also included.

All three channels are working brilliantly with the amp’s treble voicing components making this amp sound brighter than ‘normal’ or ‘bass’ examples, as you would expect. That said, it still has the classic vox chime and - to my ears - this is one of the nicest sounding AC30s I have encountered.

The amp will come with a new set of JJ Power valves an a mix of pre-amp valves and a Harma rectifier tube.
