Vox AC30 Replacement Jack Assembly

Complete new jack assembly for Vox AC30/6 (other amps available on request) ready to drop in to your amp. I can supply Available as a completed assembly (shown) which you can solder to the earth and each of the channel inputs) or as a complete kit of parts for you to assemble yourself. The earth wire can either be cut to size and soldered to your existing earth bus wire or it is long enough to replace the existing bus wire.

This uses new Cliff switched jacks which are a close match to the original Cliff switched jacks used by JMI (also VSL, Dallas, Rose Morris etc.) The main difference is that these are closed on the inner face to protect against accidental short circuits. The resistors are carefully chosen carbon composite resistors that closely match the ones used by JMI from 1963 on. The earth bus wire is silver plated for easy soldering and the correct gauge to provide an excellent earth while passing through the lugs on the potentiometers (or joined to the existing bus).

The drop down menus now allow you to choose from:

  • AC30/6 Integrated Top Boost refers to amps with the top boost controls (treble and bass) in the panel itself. These amps require a closer spacing of the six jacks. This is also the correct spacing for most late ‘60s and ‘70s amps without reverb.

  • AC30/6 Non Top Boost refers to JMI amps without top boost or which have the Top Boost fitted to the rear panel of the amp. These have a wider spacing of the jacks.

  • AC30/4 Refers to amps with four input jacks. This is slightly cheaper because it requires fewer components.

  • Other. If you choose this, I will need the exact amp and jack spacings (unless I happen to have one handy).

The variation shown was made up for early- to mid- ’60s JMI amps with a jack spacing of 3.75cm (37.5mm) centre to centre (7.5cm from the centre of the leftmost jack to the centre of the rightmost one).

These will be built to order so there will be up to a two week lead time on the completed assemblies. Versions to match other amps can be made on request - if you need a different set of parts, different resistors etc. or just a different wiring configuration, just drop me a line via the Contact page.

The completed assembly consists of six jacks, two with white nuts, correct value resistors and an earth bus-bar that is long enough to replace the existing one if required (if not, just cut to length and join to the existing earth connection. Fitting the completed assembly requires removing and re-soldering the three screened input cables. Connecting the earth can be done two ways: EITHER remove your existing bus-wire from the pots and switches before threading the replacement bus-wire through OR cut your bus-wire to the left of the switches and (allowing enough length to make a join ..) cut the new one to length and solder it to your existing one.

The kit of parts consists of:

  • Four Cliff Jacks with black nuts

  • Two Cliff Jacks with white nuts

  • 3 × 1M Carbon resistors

  • 6 × 68k Carbon resistors

  • Bus wire and green solid-core wire

You will need to be able to solder, and accurately bend the component and wire leads to the correct dimensions.
