Fender 59 Bassman Ltd (2004)

£950.00

This is a 2004 Fender ‘59 Bassman Ltd (Tweed Bassman Reissue) in excellent condition and sounding great. It is completely original and sounds just as it should. This is a UK-market amp (230-240v).

These are amazing sounding amplifiers - a great recreation of the iconic 5F6-A circuit and the 4×10” cab that was intended for bass but quickly adopted by guitar players for its touch-sensitive dynamics and glorious, fat overdrive. It remains a touchstone sound in blues, rock, and country music and - of course - was the kicking off point for Jim Marshall!

There are two channels, normal and bright, each with high and low impedance inputs. The channels can be jumpered for even more variations (and a bit more drive) and those share an excellent bass/middle/treble tone stack. This is ‘only’ a 40w amp (Fender now quotes 45w) but 40w of tweed tube amp can get extremely loud and it will need to be tamed to get it breaking up in a domestic environment. At lower volumes, however, you can still enjoy the glorious, warm tones and the amp then makes an excellent pedal platform.

Specifications

  • Power Output: 45 watts (into 2 ohms)

  • Speakers: Four specially designed 10" Jensen P10R Alnico speakers

  • Tubes: Three 12AX7 (preamp), two 6L6 (power), and one 5AR4 (rectifier)

  • Cabinet: Finger-joined solid pine with genuine lacquered tweed covering

Condition

The tweed — which is proper, lacquered tweed, not the more olive-coloured fake stuff that Fender used on lesser amps — is in really excellent condition with almost no marks at all. As is typical of this era of Fender amps, it has shed some of the lettering from the plate on the rear of the amp and (less so) from the control panel, but other than that the amp is in great condition. It has just been checked over and there are no issues needing attention at present - all the filter caps, resistors etc. are in great condition. It is pretty clear that this example has lived a pretty quiet life as a home-use amp not a gigging amp. It will come with the original cover, top card, instruction manual and hang tags as shown.
