This has to be one of the coolest British amps ever built - the V-front Watkins Dominator. This one is an unusually well preserved example of an early Dominator Mk I fully serviced and ready to play.
(unlike many amps this really is a Mk I, not a Mk II (the Mk I amps only have a top panel, no panel towards the back) from around 1960 and it is extremely original and in exceptional condition.
Nominally, this is a 17w amp with two channels, each with a high and low impedance input. Controls are simple - volume and tone for each channel and the tremolo channel additionally has speed and intensity. The normal channel tone pot also serves as the on/off switch (and why not?). Valves are ECC83 (12AX7) in the preamp and a pair of EL84s as the power section.
The amp is fully working and sounding its glorious best, including the excellent tremolo which is can be controlled by the original foot switch. This is great sounding but not a particularly loud amp, which means it can be pushed into nice crunchy tones at relatively low volumes.
Condition
The case is in extremly good shape - only a few minor tears and scrapes to the original rexine covering plus a few minor cigarette scorch marks on the top and a little rust on the handle hardware to give it some vintage mojo. The handle, grill, panel and most of the knobs are original. One of the knobs has a silver top rather than gold but the knobs are all the correct vintage parts.
Internally, this is the cleanest and most original example of an early Dominator that I have seen in working condition. Both transformers are original (and the voltage selector is still present). All the pots, wiring, and most of the pre-amp and power section are completely untouched and the original Elac speakers are in place and sounding great (no rubbing or other damage).
The main filter capacitor has been replaced (by a closely matching triple can unit), as have cathode bypass caps and a small number of resistors and caps (including the three tremolo caps) also needed replacing. All replacements are very high quality (vishay caps, carbon composite resistors etc.)
This amp will come with an inspection report from JB Amp Repairs (https://www.jbamprepairs.co.uk), NOS Mullard valves and the original slip cover shown, also in excellent condition.
