Fantastic Mesa Boogie Mk IV Rev B combo in factory hardwood case original foot switch and speaker. If you already know what you are looking at the important details are:
All original, early Revision B 17” example (attached power cable) from 1993 in a hardwood case.
Full complement of Mesa valves (5 12AX7, 2 pairs of 6L6GC) all tested and in excellent condition (strong and no microphonic or noisy valves).
Original EVM 12L Black Shadow speaker, in perfect condition.
This is un-modded and has just had a service with a full re-cap including the troublesome LVPS caps and a minor footswitch issue fixed.
This is a 240v unit with no voltage selection available so (if you are outside the UK/EU, you will need a step up transformer to use this amp.
These little amps are becoming very hard to find in this condition. This example is all working and sounding as you would expect (nothing short of amazing) and will come with the useful removable (slide-in) castors.
This one came to us in need of some TLC. It has had a complete overhaul, including a ‘board out’ re-cap with top quality components (including the filter and bias caps and the troublesome low voltage power supply caps) and a minor repair to the foot switching logic and will come with a condition report from my amp technician.
Mesa Boogie Mk IV (Rev B)
The Mark IV is a 85W 1x12 ‘simul-class’ combo. The Revision A was launched in 1990 and the improved Revision B (introduced 1993) was made until 2008. The power amp can be switched to run in various modes including ‘Simul-class’ where two 6L6s run in class AB while the other two tubes (which can be either 6L6s or EL34s) run as class A triodes, class AB or ‘Tweed mode’ (which is a lower voltage, vintage sounding ‘brown’ mode). It also supports pentode/triode switching and different valve configurations including mixing EL34s with 6L6GCs, 5110s and even 6V6s (just in case you find that the existing range of switchable options is not enough!)
These are hugely versatile amps with a lot of control and adjustment of both the pre-amp and the power stage. I have not described the full capabilities here as it would take too long - you will need to read the manual if you want to know how all the bells and whistles work on this amp. As with all Mesa’s of this period, this is built to extremely high quality standards. The case and handle are also in excellent condition. The downside to the quality of construction is that this amp is heavier than its size would imply - all in this weighs a hefty 33kg.
Although this is small, it can deliver enough volume for pretty much any venue. Fortunately, the well-designed master volume means that it can be played at sensible volumes and only turned up when needed, and the recording interface makes silent recording or connection to a PA extremely simple.
I also have a similar age wide chassis Mark IV in black tolex - call if interested in either.
