Vox Echo-Reverberation Unit c. 1966

£950.00

Vox “Cliff Richard” Echo-Reverberation Unit s/n 1604

This is very rare opportunity to own and use a fantastic Vox Reverb unit with its original Vox reverb tank in place and working perfectly on both channels.

Introduced in 1962, these became known as the “Cliff Richard” reverb units because Cliff endorsed these for a while and some bore his name and signature. Vox had stopped adding that endorsement by 1965 but the units remained in production for a few years longer. The grey panel, three-line serial plate and basketweave covering were introduced around mid-1965, and at least two of the Mullard ‘mustard’ capacitors have B6N (2nd Quarter of 1966) date codes, suggesting that this example dates to mid-late 1966.

This is in remarkable cosmetic and functional condition having just been serviced carefully. The case is completely original including the metal vents. The knobs are modern replacements, but very close to the originals. Internally, the original spring reverb tank with its Sonotone cartridges is - very unusually - all present and working well albeit the unusual rubber-band suspension system has been renewed. Filter and cathode bypass capacitors have also been renewed to ensure that this keeps working into the future (originals will be included with the unit) and it has had two replacement pots fitted (before I obtained it).

Extraordinarily, the original footswitch and connecting cable are both present and working perfectly and the original cover is also present and in great shape. Fittingly, the unit currently has a full complement of NOS Mullard valves (EZ80 rectifier, two ECC83 and one ECC82) which have been carefully selected, test as strong and - in the case of the pre-amp tubes - exhibit very low noise.

This will come with the usual report from my professional amp tech and was PAT tested October 2025.
