1963 Watkins Scout 1x10 Combo

£695.00

Rare 1963 15W Watkins Scout Combo in excellent working condition.

A rare and really well preserved amp from the golden years of British amplification. This 15 watt 1963 Watkins Scout is in very good cosmetic and functional condition, in full working order and sounding great!

The Scout is, essentially, the same chassis as the more famous (and more commonplace) V-front 2×10 Watkins Dominator but in a more compact 1×10 format that makes it perfect for home, studio or small venues. This would make an excellent introduction to classic vintage amplifiers.

Typical of Charlie Watkins’ designs, this is a relatively simple, valve (EZ81) rectified circuit that uses a pair of EL84 power valves fed by two channels that each make use of ECC83s, feeding the power stage via a third ECC83.

The result is a classic British vintage amp tone - warm and articulate and breaking up sweetly when pushed hard. It would be perfect for small-stage or studio use and - while it is surprisingly loud when cranked - it also makes an ideal practice amp. There are two channels, the first with a sweet sounding foot switch-controlled Tremolo, and the second labelled Microphone but which is equally suited to guitar.

This example is in really nice cosmetic condition. There is some wear to the pattern on the top of the amp but, overall, it is in excellent shape for its age. Internally, it has been restored to very close to original condition with just a few service items (power filter cap, cathode bypass caps) replaced to protect the original transformers and keep this little gem running for many more years. A chassis earth has been added for safety and the inputs (which had been strangely altered when we acquired the amp) have been rewired.

This amp will come with a full professionally drawn schematic and layout in case further servicing or modification is ever done and with the handmade bespoke dustcover shown in the photographs. It will also come with a brief report from my professional amp tech and has a PAT test dated October 2025
